I personally have great experience with GoBabyGo tights – both cotton and wool versions. They provide noticeably better grip on smooth floors and make it easier for the child to crawl and stand up. I recommend choosing the smaller of two sizes if in doubt, as they fit best when not too large. Another advantage is that babies can’t pull them off as easily as regular socks.
